What is SSC ?
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is Indian organization which conducts exam for various ministries and government departments. This is an attached organization of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

The basic function of the SSC is to conduct exams and interviews for non gazetted Group "B", group "C" and "D" posts of central govt. departments.
List of exams held by SSC !
- Combined Graduate level examination (CGL) - This is one of the popular exam held by the SSC. Under this exam SSC recruit officers of Grade B , C and D for various departments like Ministry of External Affairs, Intelligence Bureau, Income tax , Excise, railway , central vigilance, CBI, CAG, statistical invigilator etc.
- Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) - Under this exam selection is done for various educational departments.
- Ministry of Railway - For special class mechanical department.
- Central police organization exam - This exam is carried out for recruitment of assistant commandant, Inspector , Sub inspector in central police departments like ITBP, CISF, Delhi Police, BSF, CRPF, SSB,
- Combined Metric Level examination - This exam covers the various posts for Data Entry Operators (DEO) and lower level clerks.
- Junior Engineer examination - This exam is held for the post of junior engineer in the field of Mechanical , civil , electrical engineering.
What is Syllabus For SSC Exams ?
Generally SSC exams take place in three tiers. First and Second Tier exams are Multiple answer type Objective questions. In some special exams Paragraph writing is also a part of Second tier exam. Interview is the third and last tier for end selection. The final merit list is prepared by summing up all the three tiers together. Point for note : Every Tier has their individual cut off selection criteria.
Syllabus for TIER I
Reasoning , General Awareness, Quantitative aptitude and English comprehensive.
The first Tier of SSC exams includes four sections each of equal weightage (50 marks each section with a negative marking of 1/4 % ). It is a exam of total 200 marks with a time limit of 2 hours.
Syllabus for TIER II
Second tier includes only two sections that is Quantitative apti and English comprehensive. Each section has individual exam of 200 marks in 2 hours generally in morning and evening shifts respectively.
Key to Success : Regular study and A lot of practice for proper speed in final exam.
The difficulty level of ssc exams is not very high. Now the question is
How to Prepare for SSC examination ?
It is only the matter of time to crack this exam. The questions are not very difficult what are some tricky type. All you need is to practice a vast type of questions. For reasoning and quantitative sections go for two to three different books (preferably RS Aggarwal and Arun Sharma. If you solved both the books properly it is more than enough for you to crack this exam.). For General awareness read news paper regularly and note down the important happenings about sports, politics, cultural , world etc. Reading news paper will also improve your english vocabulary.
